Utricularia (Bladderwort)
There are around 300 species of Utricularia distributed throughout the world for the tropics to the artic. These plants can be terrestrial (grown in a planting media), epiphytic (growing on the top of media) or aquatic (growing in acidic water) depending on the species, with some aquatics adaptable to epiphytes. These plants produce carnivorous traps where you would normally find roots on other plants. They put down rootless stem into the media, and on this stem small traps form to capture and microorganism in the media and use this as a natural fertilizer.
